Keeping up your blog with uni life- Beckie

Hi everyone, it's blog manager Beckie again today. Hope everyone is having a good first week back after the reading week break. Today's post is pretty relevant to anyone in the society, no matter what year you're in, as we all know how stressful uni can be sometimes. Blogging for most at uni is a great creative outlet and a way to get your opinion out there on things you're interested in but, sometimes it can be hard to keep up with regularly when you get busier. This post will just give a few tips on how to balance blogging with a busy uni calendar and deadlines.
  1. Set yourself an attainable goal. I always work a lot better when I have a target in mind or a weekly 'to do' list. If in a particular week you have lots of work to be doing or a full week of society socials, set a goal of just publishing 1 post that week, when maybe you normally publish 3 times, as that way, you're still giving your blog and readers content, but not putting too much pressure on yourself to post when you have other important commitments.
  2. Getting a guest poster. If you aren't familiar with this concept, it is getting another blogger to do a related post on your blog for you. Guest posting is a really great tool as it keeps your blog updated and allows your readers to experience a different topic or writing style. When getting a guest poster, it's important that you choose someone who posts about similar things (otherwise it would be completely irrelevant to your blog) and that you like their own blog/writing style.
  3. Dedicating a full day when you aren't as busy/don't have as much work on to write lots and lots of draft posts. Having a bank of draft posts is a great way to keep your blog updated whilst you're busy. This way, you can schedule those posts for particular days you like whilst you are busy and you don't have to worry about not having content or needing writing new posts while you have a lot of uni work: it's already done in advance.
Finally, it's important to realise that a blog is supposed to be fun; there is no pressure to post every day or week, just because you did in the summer. It is natural that you will be busier during term time compared with holidays and nobody at uni can be a full time blogger on top of the workload you have. My tips are just a few things I've done to keep up to date with my blog at uni, especially tip 3. Now, I normally have a bank of 6-8 draft posts ready to go and then write more to add to this whenever I actually do have some free time, which means I now post 3 times a week and 1-2 times on here with not too much stress.
Hope this has been helpful and see you soon!
