On Wednesday 3rd of February, The Closet will be launching at The University of Manchester, next to Academy One and the Student Union on Oxford Road. Set-up and ran by students who are involved in the shop design, set-up, PR, social media, clothing collection, stock sorting, business, finance, and running of the shop itself, The Closet is a sustainable, unique and alternative shopping experience welcome to anyone and everyone.
Filled with lots of amazing, kindly donated, one-of-a-kind goods from the general public, The Closet stock will be sold at bargain prices and continually updated and replenished week by week. The shop will be open throughout the rest of the academic year, at select dates and times each week, with exciting interactive events also happening regularly in the shop space.
And if all this
rather excellent information wasn’t already floating your boat or rocking your
socks, the best part is that alongside collaborating with local businesses, The
Closet is also proudly supporting the local mental health charity Manchester
Mind. This means that alongside promoting the fantastic work that Manchester
Mind does and raising awareness of mental health, all money raised through shop
sales will be donated to the charity.
The decision to support Manchester Mind was decided via student vote,
with many individuals recognising the importance of both the charity’s work and
being able to sustain it. This is especially relevant in today’s society, with
many mental health services facing budget cuts, affecting their ability to
provide vital, life-changing, and often life-saving services to those who need
them most. Manchester Mind is a great example of why mental health services are
so crucial to the lives of many people, with the charity providing a wide range
of brilliant, easily accessible support and services for young people and
adults with mental health problems. They promote a positive and fair approach,
alongside challenging stereotypes and discrimination, and the invaluable work
they do makes a huge difference to the lives of their service users, which is
why The Closet aims to raise as much money as possible to keep these services
running.
If you’re interested in finding out more about The Closet and want to
help support us, please come along to our launch night on Wednesday 3rd
of February, for an evening of fashion, music, fun, photo-ops and freebies! And
what’s more, at our opening event we will also be accompanied by music from
Lord of the Tings and Bilderberg residents, and sustainable, student ran brands
including MOJO KOJO, A. Monaie Design and Tees on Toast. Pretty cool.
It’s also a great opportunity to find out how to get involved,
especially if you’re interested in fashion, volunteering, business, or you have
your own business and want to collaborate, and for all you bloggers out there,
it’s the perfect opportunity to get blog content, whether you’re into talking
about what’s happening in Manchester, lifestyle, fashion, mental health…
Anyone is welcome to come, it’s going to an amazing night, and it would
be wonderful to see some of you there!
